Starting the day with a safety brief and introductions, no time was wasted as training segued quickly onto the fundamentals of marksmanship and progressed rapidly throughout the day. With cooperative weather, Raven was able to conduct its first summer 2 Day pistol-carbine course held at H2O Foul Farms in Dunn, NC on 10 and 11 July, 2017. The students? SWAT team members from both Richmond Police Department (4th Precinct FMT Detectives/SWAT) and Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. From the get go training escalated quickly from fundamentals to the 400 point rifle aggregate, 700 pistol aggregate to tactical shooting at various ranges from 1-25 meters along with turns, forward and lateral movement with various types of target engagements. Stress shoots were interspersed along the way to both reinforce training and check individual shooter speed and accuracy.
Commenting on the training, Corey Watson, Master Patrol Officer/Range Master for the Richmond Police Department observed:
“I’m currently the range master for a 750-man department and just recently completed the two day Pistol/Carbine Course. Raven Advisory Cadre are some of the best instructors teaching today. The course offered great training for the new shooter as well as the seasoned team member. The courses of fire are taught from the ground up and are demonstrated so even the least experienced shooter has an understanding of what is expected of them. Each shooter will get one on one instruction during the training and will see an improvement each day. Also, the courses of fire will push each shooter to improve their accuracy and their time which is the cornerstone of tactical shooting. I highly recommend this training to anyone who is looking at improving their firearm proficiency no matter what their skill level. The lessons taught by Raven Advisory will be disseminated throughout our department for years to come.”
